A quick look back at 2014 as we move forward into the New Year which promises to be great. With new events already on the horizon, there’s lots to enjoy across Swansea this year. In 2014, Enjoy Swansea promoted 300+ events at key venues and spaces throughout the city and county of Swansea. With something for everyone, from Arts and Culture (Swansea Museum, Dylan Thomas Centre) and Sports and Leisure (4 Active Swansea centres, Admiral Swansea Bay 10k) to Entertainment (Brangwyn Hall, Plantasia, Oystermouth Castle, Swansea Pier, 85+ Parks). We’ve enjoyed all-year-round gigs, exhibitions, events, classical concerts, festivals, theatre shows, fitness classes, arts and crafts workshops, historical events and more. We hope you enjoyed?
Some highlights, what were yours?
- Brangwyn a multi-purpose venue and part of the Swansea Guildhall complex saw its £6m restoration complete in August 2014 and has since been busy hosting concerts, weddings, gigs and festivals, with great acts like BBC National Orchestra, CAMRA Beer Festival and top acts like Russell Kane Live, Elvis Costello, The Russian Philharmonic and Karl Jenkins.
- Dylan Thomas Centre Big celebrations in 2014 for Swansea with The Dylan Thomas Festival and other events for the 100th Birthday of Dylan, were he alive. We enjoyed a busy flurry of visitors to The Dylan Thomas Centre to exhibitions like Love the Words, plus star studded events like Dylathon with Sir Ian McKellen and Jo Brand and Blue Stocking Lounge Burlesque.
- Waterfront Winterland Swansea’s winter attraction from November to January saw bumper numbers of skaters on the ice rinks plus ‘scary ride’ Air Maxx, fairground, grotto and cafe.
- Swansea Museum and Brangwyn enjoyed great popularity with WW1 Centenary events; war related exhibitions and events including the Remembrance Festival in November.
- Active Swansea pumped out 120+ fitness classes EVERY WEEK all year across Swansea in the four leisure centres, including Tabata, TRX, Kettle Bell, Power Hooping, Circuits and Yoga.
- Admiral Swansea Bay 10k was another great event and this year Active Swansea are a partner.
Why not tell us about your favourite events last year on Enjoy Swansea Facebook or Twitter, we’d love to hear them?
