With preparations well under way for The Festival of Stitch, we take a look at another of the groups that will be exhibiting their work, The Wednesday Stitchers.
The ladies of the Wednesday Stitchers will be exhibiting their interpretation of ‘Alice in Swansea’ at Tapestri, the café bistro developed from the old police station, opposite the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery.
The Wednesday Stitchers were formed at Aberdulais Falls in 2007 with the group starting out as ‘Friends of Aberdulais Falls National Trust’. They became so successful that after a few years they had outgrown the room available to them at Aberdulais and moved to Longford Memorial Hall where they still meet.
At the moment they are at their maximum with thirty members! The group is affiliated to the Quilters Guild of the British Isles and six individuals are also members of the Quilters Guild. They have in house workshops learning from each other and also have visiting tutors.
The group are experienced exhibitors and last year managed to have three exhibitions of their work which is a fantastic achievement. They also raise money for local charities by selling their hand- made items on sales tables as well as making Linus Quilts for sick children and heart cushions for mastectomy patients. And they are share a love of sewing, nattering, eating cake and drinking tea.
This year their next exhibition will be in The National Botanic Garden of Wales from 25th – 27th May. They are exhibiting in Tapestri from August 5th to 19th for Swansea Festival of Stitch and their exhibition is ‘ Alice in Swansea’. Don’t miss out!
