NAWR (meaning NOW in Welsh) is a concert series in Swansea that showcases experimental music, free improvisation, film, lo-fi, free jazz, sound art, alternative folk and new music. As part of this year’s Swansea International Festival, a collaboration with NAWR brings three fascinating, unique concerts to the festival.
NAWR hold their concerts at Swansea Studios UWTSD in the historic BBC Hall, a hidden gem among Swansea’s concert halls and one of the finest listening spaces in Wales. They aim to offer an open and reflective space for an audience to experience new music in a welcoming and intimate setting.
The third and final concert in the series will see ACCÜ and R.Seiliog perform.
ACCÜ
Accü is Netherlands-born musician, producer and recording artist, Angharad van Rijswijk. The half-Dutch half-Welsh singer-songwriter moved to rural Carmarthenshire as a child and went on to write in both English and Welsh. Finally embarking on a solo career, she admits her songwriting process is very chaotic, which is how her name Accü (meaning ‘accumulator’ in Dutch) came to fruition, reflecting how she gathers and collects her work lyrically, visually and sonically to create her songs.
To date she has worked and recorded with writer and comedian Stewart Lee, Cornershop and frequent collaborater Richard James of Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci.
Her debut album, Echo The Red, will be released on Libertino Records.
R.Seiliog
R.Seiliog is the alias of North Walian-skewed musician/producer Robin Edwards. Emerging from the pine coned hills of Peniel, North Wales, in 2012 he released the warm analog psychedelia of his Shuffles EP, followed in 2013 by his debut LP, Doppler, a wide-eyed homage to Krautrock. Manic Street Preachers were so inspired by Doppler that they entrusted Edwards with remixing their single Futurology.
2014 saw the release of his critically-acclaimed second album, In Hz, a masterful work of convoluted drone and electronics which led Thump to herald it as ‘so good it hurts’ and Mojo Magazine to say ‘R.Seiliog presides over a subtle, imaginative record that transcends many genres’.
R.Seiliog’s work has received airplay from the likes of Huw Stephens, Mary Anne Hobbs, Radcliffe & Maconie and Lauren Laverne.
R.Seiliog is set to perform at a number of Welsh shows this autumn and winter, with more UK shows in the new year to be announced shortly.
Doors open at 19:00.
