Location: Glynn Vivian Art Gallery.
Glynn Vivian is delighted to be exhibiting Yinka Shonibare’s powerful work exploring themes of conflict, empire and migration in the centenary year of the end of the First World War.
Presented alongside Marc Rees’s Nawr Yr Awr/ Now The Hero commissioned for 14-18NOW, Shonibare’s sculptural work End of Empire explores how alliances forged in the First World War changed British society forever, and continue to affect us today.
Now for More
This event is a part of the Now the Hero series of fringe events under the banner of Now for More happening across Swansea.
Nawr Yr Arwr/Now The Hero uses Brangwyn’s British Empire Panels as a springboard for exploring narratives of war, peacetime unity and harmony. The panels offer both an uncompromising vision of the colourful and optimistic possibilities of post war Empire and reveal the tragedy of war hidden behind the fecund and super abundant scenery.
Now for More is a mini festival that will resemble an Art Weekender spread over from Friday 21st to Saturday 29th September. Now For More will involve all of the city’s cultural institutions big and small, who each in their own unique way will respond to Nawr Yr Arwr/Now The Hero‘s main theme – the impact of war and conflict on human relationships and to the panels themselves. Now for More will feature one-off special events, exhibitions, artists’ talks, family activities and trails, public artworks, workshops and performances by outstanding contemporary artists in multiple locations across Swansea.
Access to all participating NOW For More venues and projects is FREE.
