PEOPLE have the chance to give a Christmas gift with a difference this year by nominating a team or a person for the 2017 Swansea Sports Awards.
The December 31 deadline for nominations is now fast-approaching, with award categories including Volunteer of the Year, Inspiring Young Person of the Year, Community Coach of the Year and Junior Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability
Swansea Council’s Sport and Health Team is behind the awards, which have been recognising local sporting achievement for 15 years.
Other categories include Senior Club or Team of the Year, Junior Club or Team of the Year, Primary School Team of the Year and Secondary School Team of the Year.
The event will also celebrate the Sportsperson of the Year, as well as the Junior Sportsman and Junior Sportswoman of the Year categories.
Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Major Projects, said: “With the end of 2017 only a few weeks away, it’s a time to reflect on yet another successful year of sport in Swansea.
“Whether it’s the volunteer or coach who puts in hour after hour behind the scenes, the team which has been the most successful through the year, or the sportsperson that has achieved the most in their sport, Swansea is a city full of sporting champions.
“This is why I’d urge anyone who thinks a team or individual is deserving of an award to get in touch by December 31 to ensure they’re considered for city-wide recognition.
“Nominating a person or a team for a 2017 Swansea Sports Award in the build-up to the New Year would be a terrific Christmas gift with a difference.”
