AN AMAZING day of festive fun will kick-start Swansea’s Christmas celebrations later this month.
The countdown to Christmas officially starts on November 18 from 4pm in the city centre with an extravaganza of colour, music, dancing and the famous festive lights switch-on all under the gaze of Santa himself.
This year he’ll be starring in his very own Time Travelling Adventure along a new city centre route between Princess Way and the Kingsway. Spectators can stand anywhere along the route and have the same experience as this year, there will also be four show stopper areas dotted along the route, all featuring some magical entertainment.
Swansea’s community will be supporting Santa in his travelling adventures and he will be joined by dance and theatre troupes including Rising Stars Theatre Company, Mellin Theatre Arts and Dani Dee School of Dance. They’ll be accompanying procession spectacles boasting amazing new technology and special effects designed to transport onlookers to Christmases past, present and future.
Santa’s procession has some spectacular moving exhibits, boasting amazing technology and special effects, coupled with choirs, dancers, musicians and world-renowned clowns Tom and Pepe with their elf helpers! Santa’s Time Travelling Adventure is designed to transport onlookers to Christmases past, present and future.
The festive fun starts from 4pm
This year there’s no more standing around waiting for the procession to come past – we’ve got magical entertainment all along the route to keep you warmed up while waiting for Santa!
All the pre-event fun will begin at 4pm with music, dancing and much more around the City Centre and on our eight stages along the route (check out our event map below).
And from 5pm, it’s time for the main event!
There’s a brand new route for 2018, with the procession starting at Princess Way, onwards to Caer Street and College Street before ending on The Kingsway. This year Santa’s got something a little bit special in store too, as there are also FOUR Show Stopper Stages at St. Mary’s Church, Swansea Castle, and one at each end of the Kingsway.
Starting at 5pm, Santa and the jam packed procession will makes its way from Princess way to the first Show Stopper Stage – get ready, as he’ll stop here for some live entertainment with dynamic dance troupes, musicians, amazing lights and special effects and much more. All this before the lights in that area get switched on!
That’s right, this year nobody misses the famous Christmas Lights Switch On – the City Centre Christmas lights will be switched on in sections from each show stopper stage!
After the lights around St. Mary’s and Princess Way are switched on, Santa and the procession will continue onto the next three show stopper stages for the same amazing show. No matter where you wait to see Santa this year, you’ll see the same great show and see the lights switched on! With four stages to choose from, all with the same great entertainment, you can wait for Santa at the one that suits you.
It’s sure to be a magical Christmas adventure to remember and don’t forget – this year there’s no waiting to see Santa, no need to follow the procession and no missing anything!

“On top of that Waterfront Winterland is back on Museum Park from Friday 16 November until Sunday 6 January for another great year. Get your skates on as this year the Ice Rink will be undercover with a clear roof. Along with the return of a family fun fair and delicious food cabins, Christmas wouldn’t be complete without a trip.
There’s lots of other treats planned for the festive countdown too.
“The Kingsway roadworks are being lifted for the Christmas period for the benefit of shoppers and city centre businesses. The festive countdown is a vital time of year for retailers and visitorsand we are pulling out all the stops to make sure the city centre will be top of your shopping list for presents this year.”
