The hugely successful Swansea International festival returns to the City this October, boasting a fresh new look and a huge line-up of artists, musicians, comedians, performers and more.
Over the course of a fortnight, from Friday 2nd to Sunday 17 October, you will be able to take in over 20 diverse events that range from music and comedy to art installations, in a host of great venues throughout Swansea.
Established in 1948 as Swansea Festival of Music & the Arts , the Festival has gone from strength to strength, and is able to attract visits from major British and foreign orchestras and artists – the only such performances in South Wales outside Cardiff. Combining international standards with a focus on outstanding Welsh artists and innovative work, the Festival is vital to the cultural calendar of south west Wales.
Music lovers will be spoilt this year with a host of big names taking part. The Brangwyn welcomes a trio of major Orchestras: the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Michael Sanderling, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, conducted by Jac van Steen and also The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra conducted by Edward Garnder. That’s not to mention Trio Apaches, Sinfonia Cymru, the Charlie Wood Band, Swansea City Opera, Clare Hammond, Catrin Finch and much more!
If you’re in the mood for art, The Mission Gallery welcomes Ryan L. Moule with his exhibition ‘Divisible Remainder’, while Mike Hill: Red Oxide is also in residence at the Ceri Richards Gallery, Taliesin Arts Centre.
For Theatre buffs, you can catch performances of The Phantom of the Opera and The Lodger. Take an evening Interactive Audio Walk and experience Swansea like never before. Even Welsh legends Max Boyce and Iolo Williams will be stopping by the Grand Theatre.
This really is one of the biggest and best Swansea International Festival line-ups yet, and it’s not to be missed. Visit the website to view the full program of events and to book your tickets.
