On Saturday August the 22nd from 11am, Swansea City Centre plays host to a ‘World Party’.
Community groups from throughout Swansea will be representing a plethora of cultures from around the world. From Poland to Sri Lanka, Swansea’s Castle Square will for one night become a multi-cultural melting pot of live music, dance, art and crafts, as well as food and drink. There will be demonstrations and even opportunities to have a go at activities, featuring global cuisine, international art and traditional crafts in the centre of the square.
For the first time, this year World Party will welcome the area’s Ukrainian community. Despite many members of the Ukrainian community having lived in the Swansea area for several years it was only in the build–up to last year’s NATO summit in Newport that they made connections and got together.
Since then the community have been engaging with people, entertaining them with Ukrainian folk songs, dance, also hand-crafting a range of traditional Ukrainian products to sell, raising funds to support Ukrainian families affected by the current conflict.
On Saturday 22 August they will be delighting the crowds at the World Party event in Castle Square with their charming culture including:
– Demonstrations of traditional Ukrainian hair styling and dress
– Hand-crafted produce such as hair bands decorated with colourful flowers
– Ukrainian folk music
– Traditional costumes
World Party is an excellent chance for Swansea’s community groups to introduce themselves to a wider audience, raising awareness of their valuable work, and potentially attract new members.
It’s not too late to join in the fun. If groups would like to take part, maybe by performing on stage, demonstrating traditional craft or cooking, or running an interactive workshop, then email special.events@swansea.gov.uk or phone 01792 635428.
