Due to illness, sadly John Owen-Jones will not appear at BBC Proms in the Park in Swansea tomorrow, September 12.
However stepping into the breach is up-and-coming singer Luke McCall from Bala, North Wales. Luke is currently making his West End debut in Les Misérables and was named Welsh Musical Theatre Young Singer Of The Year 2014.
John Owen-Jones said:
“On the advice of my doctor it is with enormous regret that I have to cancel my scheduled appearance at Proms in the Park this Saturday, September 12.
I recently returned to play the role of The Phantom in the West End and the unique vocal demands of this role combined with a punishing rehearsal schedule has resulted in vocal fatigue. Sadly the only real way to recover and get my voice back to normal is complete vocal rest.
I am bitterly disappointed that I cannot perform at Proms in the Park as I have been really looking forward to singing in Swansea again and am deeply saddened to have to take this decision. I have never had to cancel a concert in my career, which makes this decision even more painful. However, in light of the medical advice I have been given I think it is the correct one to take.”
A BBC spokesperson said:
“John is just as disappointed as we are that he can’t join us at BBC Proms in the Park. We fully understand he’s following medical advice and wish him a speedy recovery.”
