Community groups, businesses, schools and charities are invited to join in the festivities at this year’s World Party.
World Party is a day-long, colourful celebration of Swansea’s cultural diversity in the heart of the city for people to enjoy.
Swansea Council, which is behind World Party, hopes to encourage more local organisations than ever to take part in the annual event being held on Saturday August 22.
Local community groups, such as bands, dance and cultural groups, are invited to apply to perform on the main stage that’ll be put up in Castle Square. There’s also the opportunity to host demonstrations and have-a-go activities.
Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said:
“This is a fantastic opportunity for local community groups to get involved in what has become a firm favourite on the city’s growing events calendar.
“Our ambition is to involve the whole community in creating something spectacular to celebrate different cultures from around the world and Swansea’s diverse mix of communities.”
World Party is usually enjoyed by over 5,000 people. Attractions at the event have previously included world music, dance acts, global cuisine, international art and traditional crafts.
The Council is looking for community groups that could offer interactive entertainment, performance and workshops, including street art, visual arts and crafts, music, dance, theatre or something completely different.
Cllr Francis-Davies said:
“World Party is a great opportunity for our community groups to introduce themselves to a wider audience and raise awareness of their valuable work. It could also potentially help them attract new members.”
