This year, the final of the John Fussell Award for Young Musicians is being opened to the public as a free event, giving audiences an opportunity to hear these young people before they rise to fame. Could you spot the next Llŷr Williams, Rhys Meirion or Catrin Finch? – all former winners of this Award.
Each year the four finalists compete in Swansea for a first prize of £2,500. To be eligible for the competition all competitors must have either been born or raised in Wales, have Welsh heritage or studied in Wales, with the prize money being used to enable them to continue their studies in music.
This year’s finalists are Benjamin Tarlton (cello), Luke Jones (piano), Thomas Congdon (viola) and Rhys Alun Thomas (bass singer).
The panel of expert adjudicators are Verona Buddug James (opera singer), David Doidge (pianist/repetiteur WNO) and Huw Tregelles Williams (organist and Chair).
