His words, life story, the process of writing – it’s all really fascinating. In other words, Dylan Thomas is a living legend and as expected there will be a flurry of events happening to mark Dylan Day. Led by Literature Wales, ‘Dylan Day’ on 14 May marks the very day Under Milk Wood was first read on stage at 92Y The Poetry Center, New York in 1953. We’ve picked 5 different ways you can celebrate him, his life, work and words this year.
- ‘Love the Words’. Join the Dylan Thomas Centre’s Literature Officer for a free guided tour of the new, permanent ‘Love the Words’ Dylan Thomas Exhibition. Tours, taking about half an hour will start at 10am and 2pm on 14 May. Book online to ensure a place.
- Dylan’s Missing Notebook. Join the Dylan Day celebrations at Swansea University as they bring Dylan’s missing notebook home to Wales. Just 200 people will have the exclusive opportunity to see the ‘lost’ notebook at the university on Thursday 14 May. Visits are limited to 20 people per half hour slot between 11am and 4pm. Book online to avoid disappointment.
- How To Poison Your Wife! is on 14 May, 8pm-10pm at Clyne Farm Centre. Join the actors and writers of hit BBC sitcom ‘High Hopes’, Boyd Clack and Kirsten Jones, for an unique insight into the making of Kevin Allen’s star studded new film version of Dylan’s Under Milk Wood, in which cult favourite Boyd Clack fulfilled his dream of portraying schoolmaster and would-be poisoner Mr Pugh! Enjoy a night of wonderful performances from Kirsten Jones and exclusive filmed interviews with the co-producers of this stunning new take on Dylan’s play for voices, Rhys Ifans and Kevin Allen. - Under Milk Wood. Celebrate by joining the cast and crew of Kevin Allen’s film version of ‘Under Milk Wood’ at a special private screening at Swansea’s Taliesin Arts Centre on Thursday 14 May at 1.45pm. It’s first come first served so email Geoff for more information if you’re keen.
- Under Milk Wood Twitter Play. Between 10am and 4pm Dylan Thomas Centre will be presenting further conversations from the residents of Llareggub, as extracts of Dylan’s ‘play for voices’ are tweeted throughout the day. Follow @DTCSwansea and join in tweebs!
