You probably know about Swansea’s award winning Blue Flag beaches and Green Flag parks but did you know about our Purple Flag nightlife?
The award is a national accreditation scheme that recognises excellent management of city centres at night and is backed by the government, police and business. After a long application and assessment process Swansea was awarded the Flag in February 2015 and is the only city in Wales to hold it.
The Purple Flag status confirms Swansea as a vibrant place to visit at night time with clean and safe environments, great bars and clubs, a variety of arts and cultural attractions and excellent transport links.
Now we all know about Wind Street and the bars and clubs that make it a destination for many young people, from all over south Wales. But did you know about all the other things you can do on a night out in Swansea? There’s theatre, live music of all kinds, cinemas, great restaurants, dance performances and classes, bowling, laserzone, skateboarding, sporting activities … truly something for everyone!
We thought it was time to shout about our award-winning nightlife so we’ve put together The Big Swansea Purple Flag Weekend on 2/3/4 October. Over the course of the weekend venues and entertainment providers across Swansea will put on events which showcase what they do. It’s a chance to try out new things, or drag your family and friends along to things they’ve never done before. During September they’ll be adding information about their events to this website so keep checking back to see what’s on and what you fancy going to. Support your city and wave that Purple Flag!
